Description

September is apple time in the Carolinas and we will be making some really scrumptious things with apples so be sure to visit us often to see what we have cooked up! I love apples and I love scones so I decided to pair the two. What could be better right? These scones are just the right amount of sweet and tart with a delicious apple and cranberry flavor in every bite. Check out our facebook page for a link to finding APPLE ORCHARDS in YOUR area.... Directions/Steps
  1. Place the sliced apples, cinnamon, cranberries, sugar, and 2 tablespoons butter over medium heat on the stove.
  2. Cook until butter melts and apples just begin to soften.
  3. Stir constantly so that the sugar and butter do not burn. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Beat the egg and the milk together.
  5. Take out 2 tablespoons to brush over scones before baking.
  6. In mixing bowl place flour, salt and the 3 1/2 tablespoons butter.
  7. Cut the butter into the flour until it is a crumbly mixture.
  8. Stir in the cooked apple mixture and the egg/milk mixture (minus the 2 tablespoons as above) and stir well. The dough will be a little sticky.
  9. Grease a baking sheet and preheat over to 425 degrees.
  10. Roll dough out on a floured surface.
  11. If you like thicker scones roll the dough out to 1″ if you like them just a little thinner 1/2 inch is what is pictured above.
  12. Cut in any shape you like.
  13. Place on the backing sheet.
  14. Brush with reserved egg/milk mixture and bake for 9-10 minutes.

Additional Tips

If you roll your scones out to the thicker consistancy it will yield less and you need to bake a little longer. We will be featuring Apple recipes every Monday and Thursday of September at www.CarolinaHeartStrings.com
