My mother grew up in a small town outside of Lucca, Colle di Compito. My three other grandparents were Genoese. As a child and older, I spoke Toscano Italian, the Genovese dialect/language and American English at home. Presently, my Italian and Genovese languages are Lacking, as most of my older relatives have passed on.
